What a week! A tsunami warning, pilot whales, and dolphins… we are happy to report that Mother Nature was on our side in multiple ways.

Offshore is one of our favorite places to be, and this week we watched lots of short-finned pilot whales! In the mix of a larger pod, we were thrilled to see quite a few playful little ones and curious individuals. It’s always exciting seeing baby pilot whales, and we hope their population continues to grow.

The littles were rolling around and the adults were spy hopping keeping an eye out (literally). We were treated to great views and found ourselves surrounded by whales. On a separate occasion, we had three different pods in one trip!! Each exhibiting different behaviors and giving us a nice variety of surface action.

In even deeper waters, we found a huge pod of Pantropical spotted dolphins! To make the encounter even cooler, there were 8 ‘iwa hunting with the dolphins. So epic! At one point the pod was moving together so quickly it was like a stampede! There were dolphins riding our bow, surfing our wake, and leaping out of the waves. The activity was truly wild. To round it out an eventful week, we also watched Hawaiian spinner dolphins and witnessed a super tiny individual spinning in the air. Cuteness overload!

We had guests visiting from all over the world and we loved sharing our adventures with you. See you next time!
