You’re going to love the way Hawaiian Adventures does mantas! Sharing this incredible experience with our guests is what drives us to run the best manta tour on the Island. Leaving Honokohau Harbor, we have the ability to reach the northern or southern manta sites depending on the calmest conditions. Our 6:30 PM departure is strategic, as we can choose the site with fewer people and more mantas. With one trip a night, small groups, and professional guides, our tour sets the bar high for value and guest experience.
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by your crew. Upon boarding, you’ll be fitted with a wetsuit top and snorkel gear. The journey is half the fun as we cruise to the best manta site of the night. Before getting in the water, our guides will get you ready to meet the mantas! The crew will have you prepared allowing for more in water time. Our guide’s in-water experience enables them to identify the resident rays we snorkel with on your trip!
Not all light boards are created equal. Our large custom light board uses ocean LEDs to draw more plankton to the surface. Hang onto the board as it works its magic, and watch the massive mantas swoop and roll beneath. This experience is more of a float than an underwater snorkel, so we provide float belts and noodles to make viewing relaxing and effortless. Dry off, get comfortable, and enjoy the ride back to the marina as the beautiful lights of Honokohau guide us home.

Prep & Enthusiasm!
Revisit your confirmation email! You will find the address to the marina and a foolproof satellite image that will lead you directly to the meeting location. We recommend arriving 30 min prior depending on where you’re coming from on the Island. It’s much more relaxing if you’re a couple of minutes early, so bring your enthusiasm and the crew will take care of the rest.
Dress for Success
We want our guests to be comfortable. Arrive wearing your swimsuit with a towel and outer layers. There’s plenty of storage onboard for your small bag. We recommend slippers/flip-flops as most of the trip will be spent barefoot. You’ll be fitted with a wetsuit top upon boarding which will keep you warm en route to the manta site and in the water. Exiting the water, you’ll appreciate your towel and dry layers during our cruise back to the marina.
Motion of the Ocean
Much of the tour will be in the dark, and we want you to be prepared for this incredible experience. If you’re prone to sea sickness or unsure if you are, we suggest taking motion-sickness medicine the morning of and an hour before your tour. Staying hydrated, avoiding heavier foods, and abstaining from alcohol beforehand will also aid in seasickness prevention.
Check In and Boarding
We recommend arriving 30 minutes prior to your tour. All guests need to meet at the Hawaiian Adventures Kona sign on the south-central side of the marina, 15 minutes prior to departure. There’s no need to print off email confirmations or tickets –– we’ll check you in electronically with the last name on your reservation!

Artemis was specifically engineered and designed to be the easiest vessel on the Big Island to get on and off of. She features both a bow loading ramp with a deep ladder, as well as a water-level swim step with deep ladders off the stern.
Without light, there are no night manta sightings! We worked with several manufacturers to develop the first and only set of aluminum and closed-cell foam night manta boards. Lights have been custom CNC’s into the underside, giving our boards an unintrusive ability to attract more mantas. With comfortable and stable hand rails, there’s no better manta board on the Island.
Artemis was built for whale watching, snorkeling, and night manta tours. She was outfitted with red underway lights, LED running lights, and a spotlight.
