Kona’s Adventure Vessel

Meet Apollo

Meet Apollo, the newest addition to the Hawaiian Adventures team. Apollo’s long, nimble, Ribcraft design creates a gentle ride while also bolstering the spirit of adventure. One of the smoothest riding vessels in its class, Apollo‘s 12.5 meter hull is designed for streamlined, sleek movement and creates a soft ride over the ocean. Forward facing padded seats ensure a comfortable cruise and unobstructed views as we explore the wonder of the Kona coast.

We’re also able to go farther because of our advanced coast guard certifications, which allow us to reach Kona’s expansive offshore zone– a certification very few boats in the harbor hold. Because of our expanded search range, we’ll have more opportunities for a variety of encounters, and be able to spend more time on scene with wildlife. This 20 mile off shore certification makes Apollo one of the safest, most capable boats in the harbor for running off shore, where we’ll search for over a dozen pelagic cetacean species including pilot whales, false killer whales, melon headed whales, sperm whales, beaked whales, rough toothed dolphins, and so much more!

During our winter humpback season, we’ll extend our search range to the calm banks of the north— a favorite spot for our humpback whales. Traveling further, we’ll be able to spend more time on scene with wildlife and have fewer boats in the area, which leads to intimate, respectful wildlife interactions and reduces environmental impacts. Our onboard marine naturalist and skilled Captain will be your go-to guides and experts for all things whales and wildlife. Have any questions? Ask! Education is one of our highest priorities at Hawaiian Adventures, and Apollo allows for an interactive, exciting, and limitless learning experience. Apollo truly is the ultimate floating classroom, complete with open, unobstructed views and water-level viewing that allows you to hold a connection with whales and dolphins like never before.

Performance

The long 46-foot waterline and dual catamaran hulls make for a smooth and stable ride whether exploring Kona’s dramatic coastlines and shallow reefs or venturing far offshore into Kona’s deep pelagic zone in search of Hawaii’s rare and elusive wildlife species. Equipped with twin Volvo D6-IPS650 engines enable a fast but quiet cruising speed of over 20 knots while maintaining the Environmental Protection Agencies’ Tier 3 compliance for emission standards. With this state-of-the-art, fast, and fuel-efficient propulsion system, Artemis explores the Kona Coast in style without any irritating engine fumes.

Floating Classroom

Welcome aboard the ultimate floating classroom. One of our highest priorities is providing meaningful, impactful education about the beautiful ecosystem we get to explore. Apollo is equipped with educational tools including species figurines(?) and research-grade hydrophones which can be deployed to pick up subsurface vocalizations. Apollo’s design allows for intimate, one-on-one discussions with our highly qualified crew. Our onboard marine naturalist and Captain will be your go-to guides and experts for all things wildlife, research, history, and conservation. Have any questions? Take advantage of the knowledge of our skilled crew and ask away! Learning first hand in the field and at water level, guests can obtain a tangible connection to the ocean, whales, dolphins, and other wildlife that they will take with them long after we return to the dock.

Safety

Apollo holds one of the highest coast guard certifications on the island. This advanced certification allows us to travel up to 20 miles off shore, a credential few other boats on the big island hold. This means increased safety equipment, state of the art technology, and triple outboard motors that ensure a steady ride. Stepping aboard, you’ll find that comfort meets capability. Settle into our forward facing jokey seats knowing Apollo was designed specifically for handling all ocean conditions confidently while also keeping passenger safety and comfort of the highest priority.
